MasonryDefender Gloss Patio Paver Sealer is a durable, water-based, clear sealer designed to protect and beautify both clay brick and cement patio type paver stones, giving them a gloss, angular sheen. This product is formulated with a high-performance acrylic resin that provides protection from both water and the ultra-violet light of the sun. It can be used on most types of horizontal, above-grade concrete and masonry applications, including clay brick, clay paver stones, cement paver stones, and natural stone.

The sealer gives pavers a gloss sheen, with a wet-look. The amount of sheen created is dependent on the porosity of the surface as well as the number of coats applied. Porous surfaces will not exhibit as much sheen as dense/smooth surfaces. It is recommended to test in an inconspicuous area first to ensure satisfactory results.

MasonryDefender Gloss Paver Sealer is a VOC Compliant (<100 g/L) water-based sealer that is easier on the environment than solvent-based sealers. It provides water repellent protection to prevent freeze-thaw damage such as cracking, pitting, and flaking.

To avoid surfaces from becoming slippery when wet, consider using MasonryDefender Non-Slip Additive. Apply the first coat of sealer with a pump-up garden sprayer. Once the sealer is dry enough to walk on and the joint sand is hardened in place, add one 4 oz. container of non-slip additive to each gallon, and apply with a short nap paint roller. The non-slip additive cannot be added to a sprayer as it may clog the nozzle, and must be rolled on with a paint roller. Alternatively, it can be broadcast across a surface that is still wet with sealer.

The product is now available in 2.5 gallon jugs that are easier to carry, pour, and open than bulky, 5 gallon cans, making it more convenient for larger projects.

Some frequently asked questions about MasonryDefender Gloss Patio Paver Sealer:

  1. Will this give my pavers a wet look? Yes, this product will create a wet look, gloss sheen. The amount of sheen created will vary based on the number of coats applied and the porosity of the surface.

  2. Is this a clear product? During application, it looks milky white. As it dries, it becomes totally clear.

  3. Does this make my pavers slippery? Smooth or dense surfaces could become slick when wet. To create a non-slip surface, add a 4 oz. container of MasonryDefender Non-Slip Additive to each gallon of sealer.

  4. Does it have a strong odor? No, this product is very low odor.

  5. What's the best way to clean up? This is a water-based product, so you can use soap and water to clean up. For even easier cleanup, consider using an industrial orange hand cleaner such as Gojo, or a similar type product.

  6. How many coats should I apply? Apply 2 coats of Gloss Patio Paver Sealer with a pump-up garden sprayer. Allow the first coat to dry before applying the second. Do not allow the product to form puddles.

  7. How long does it take to dry? Dry time can vary, but will normally take 1-2 hours in warm weather and low humidity. High humidity or cooler weather can lengthen dry times.

  8. Can this be used on a paver driveway? No, this product is not suited for use on driveways with hot tire traffic. It's best suited for use on patios, porches, sidewalks, or any horizontal paver surface with foot traffic only. For driveways, consider using MasonryDefender Low Gloss Paver Sealer.

  9. Does it resist oil stains? Most oil stains will easily wipe off if cleaned up quickly. If stains are allowed to sit on the surface and penetrate, they can become difficult to remove. This product, like all acrylic sealers, will not hold up to brake fluid.

  10. How much product do I need? Coverage rates will vary based on the porosity of the surface. For cement pavers, figure 75-150 sq. ft. per gallon. For clay pavers, figure 150-200 sq. ft. per gallon. This coverage rate is for 2 coats.
